January 30, 2024July 8, 2024 ~ Monte High

(the DNA test reveals
1% North American Indigenous)

She whispers
into the stream
of my blood

I follow her
into the juniper forest
where the berries shimmer blue
next to the encompassing red Cliff

I kneel on the earth
without fear
I ask for my song

show me how
to weave a yucca basket
fill it with tiny grass seeds
singing
